Telling a Crucial Story Through Film

In the heart of Madagascar, where countless children have never received a single vaccination, UNICEF embarked on a mission aptly named the "Zero Dose Project," which seeks to protect the most vulnerable by ensuring every child receives the essential vaccinations they need. To capture this inspiring journey, they turned to us, the team of DDC Africa, a production company known for its exceptional visual storytelling.

Together we devised a groundbreaking approach that would tell the story through the lens of a Malagasy social media influencer Lorah Gasy, using innovative language and a distinct style. The challenge was to introduce this critical narrative into the fabric of social media content, while retaining the essence of a documentary-style message. The result is a powerful story that revolves around the dedicated vaccinators and the Ministry of Health teams who go door to door, ensuring that every child is protected.

Behind the Lens in Mahajanga

Filmed in the city of Mahajanga, 500 kilometers from Antananarivo, Madagascar's capital, this project was completed in a mere three intense production days. As the Production Supervisor at DDC Africa, I joined forces with director Nantenaina Rakotondranivo in script development and field production. The logistics were intricate, involving numerous interviewees who played a pivotal role in the narrative. UNICEF facilitated these connections, allowing the team to dive deep into the heart of the story.

Before even setting foot in the field, meticulous pre-production planning was of greatest importance. Establishing trust with the client, understanding programmatic priorities, and aligning technical and aesthetic parameters played an essential role in the project's success. The film beautifully transitions from dawn to sunset, thanks to this careful planning.

Forging Impactful Connections

DDC Africa's collaboration with UNICEF Madagascar has been a testament to our shared commitment to the community fostering awareness and understanding through the art of storytelling. UNICEF's initiatives have always been a source of inspiration and impact, making them a valued partner for DDC Africa.

As a team of filmmakers with experience in both documentaries and brand communication, it is really important for us at DDC to keep working with development organizations and helping our clients communicate their very important work in the field, continuing our mission to inspire, educate, and make a difference.
